Colors | Red in the kitchen

I never posted red kitchen inspirations (or any kitchen inspirations for that matter) before, so here it comes: kitchen in red. It looks amazing in two options, either red cupboards or only red accessories. It sort of reminds me of Christmas time, because red is one of the colors I associate with Christmas. However, it is summer, so let’s not think about winter yet.

Red kitchen is actually really inspiring for me. It’s not one of these colors that you use often in any interior. Neutrals usually win in the arrangements, but neutrals can also be boring. Naturally, red can be a part of modern kitchens but I am bewitched by how it looks in more traditional interiors. Simply outstanding and very cozy.

It was pretty hard to find some real-life inspirations and suggestions for kitchen accessories and furniture but I hope I managed and you like it. Take a look at no. 7: the modern chandelier, it could fit well into modern glamour style I wrote about earlier.

Actually, I have decided the color series will not happen in one week because there is just so much material to be done that I cannot post every two days. However, two or three times in a week seem reasonable and I will hopefully stick to this formula 🙂 Next I think I will write about red in the bedroom, stay tuned!

Colors | Red in the living room

Today I present to you red living room and it marks the start of the red color week. Red is a tricky color in interior design. You need to be careful not to overdo it because it can look tacky. It is a popular color in modern design style.

I have red couch in my rented apartment and wasn’t too happy about it at first. With the help of some inspiration images, however, I managed to make peace with it. I styled it with ecru and grey throw pillows and it looks nice at the moment.

As usual, it it best to make red only your accent color in the interior and I will always stand by this solution. However, if you have rebellious nature, you can make your whole living room red; there are no limits. Combinations with other colors work really well, such as with turquoise (as you will see in the images below), green and even pink. Especially red and pink look excellent together and it is also not very obvious solution. If you don’t like to experiment too much, pairing red with neutral colors will also look very elegant.

Colors | Navy in the bedroom

Navy bedroom can look amazing, elegant and somehow intimate. To paint the bedroom walls navy, the room needs to have rather large windows, so that they lighten it up. I would also recommend having white furniture or at least light bedding, so it doesn’t feel too dark inside.

Bedrooms look even more wonderful when the coastal or nautical styles are applied. It is summery and relaxing, and what is more, easy to apply with accessories.

As mentioned in the previous articles about the color navy, you can go either all out and paint your walls navy or you can add navy textiles and decor. I think the textiles would work better for most of the bedrooms and as a bonus, you can add navy bed with a tufted headboard. It will be completely your decision.

I picked out some of the most inspiring images I could find. Let’s look at them below:

Maybe you have already noticed: navy accessories or furniture look a lot better when there is a stroke of vibrant color in the room, such as orange, green, red, yellow, etc. It can only be one or two elements of the interior but it livens up the area and makes it less catalog and more personal. The great thing is, navy looks good with almost every color, so choose the one you like the most.

As usual, I prepared some real-life navy bedroom inspirations below. I especially love the lamps and the velvet bench, I would be so happy to have those in my bedroom.

Colors | Navy in the bathroom

Part two of the Navy Color Series (yes, I came up with the name just now). This time, my topic will be a navy bathroom. We will take a look at the possibilities of changing your existing bathroom or designing en elegant new one. The walls do not have to be this dark, especially in small bathrooms but how about cabinets or accessories? I’m positive it will look very sophisticated paired with white and gold.

Here is how to transform your bathroom.

Paint the cabinets

If I ever wanted to makeover a room in my house, I would definitely start with what I can do myself, instead of replacing every piece of furniture that I own. Painting the cabinets is fairly easy and inexpensive, however, it’s not so easy for me to explain every step of the way, because I have never done the painting myself. I send you to this great article where you have it all in detail.

Paint the wALLS

It is really important to make a good choice with your paint color. Even if it is navy, there are so many different tones and finishes of paint to choose from that the options are endless. It is also rather simple to paint the walls, and I’m sure you have done it at some point in your life. There are many articles about that topic, so I will not go into detail here. I’m just here to inspire you.

Choose navy tiles

This suggestion is for the ones who are desiging their perfect navy bathroom yet. I like the look of navy tiles even better than navy walls, especially near the bathtub or in the shower.

Colors | Navy in the living room

Navy is such a classic color: neutral in the wardrobe, but not so neutral in interior design. It’s too dark to be considered neutral, so not everyone will choose it when thinking about designing a room. In small apartments especially, the owners would rather have lighter, optically enlarging colors. But who said navy couldn’t play a part in accessorizing? You don’t actually have to paint your walls navy.

Personally I adore this color as it’s so not obvious in interiors and I like navy walls, although I’m wondering if I could stand such darkness in the room in the long run. Probably not, but looking at interior design inspirations doesn’t cost a dime.

Today’s topic is navy in the living room and this is the start of a new blog series “Colors”. I will post inspirations regarding each color, and each week will be different color. Sometimes, of course, the series will be interrupted by other topics worth discussing, so I cannot promise the series will be consistent every week. Nevertheless, I hope you enjoy it!

Navy Accents

Navy accents make a room look polished and elegant. I would definitely try to include some of it in my living room, especially patterned pillows or curtains. Navy looks amazing combined with gold or bright pink accents as well.

One other way of incorporating navy into your apartment was discussed recently in my article about nautical decor, and you can find many tips and inspirations there.

If you feel inspired enough, how about some real-life items in navy color to help you create your dream living room? As always, I mainly focus on home decor, because it is not as expensive as furniture and it certainly can transform the interior without breaking the bank. Enjoy!
